Senior Coordinator, Curriculum Development and Planning

Chartered in 1983 by the Government of Pakistan as the country's first private international university, Aga Khan University (AKU) is committed to excellence in education, research and service. AKU is in the process of establishing a Faculty of Arts and Sciences (AKU-FAS) on a 1,100-acre campus on the outskirts of Karachi situated in the hub of the ‘Education City'. The Faculty of Arts and Sciences will be based on the liberal arts model, but at the same time the curriculum and the focus of its programmes will be rooted in its Pakistani, South Asian and Muslim environments. AKU-FAS will develop students' skills in critical thinking and analysis, raise their proficiency in verbal and written communication, enhance human resource development in the region, and advance understanding in academic disciplines in the sciences, social sciences, arts and humanities. Graduates will have a wide variety of career choices, ranging from business, public service, law, engineering, psychology, mass media and education to international relations.

Applications are invited for the position of Senior Coordinator, Curriculum Development and Planning for the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.

Responsibilities
Reporting to the Planning Head, AKU-FAS, the appointee will develop core and departmental curriculum in coordination with the Planning Head. In addition, he/she will be responsible for:

  • Planning and communicating dissemination strategy of curriculum standards and their implications to stakeholders;
  • Participating in the preparation of AKU-FAS's academic plans, including long-range strategic plans and initiating systems for their efficient implementation;
  • Promoting innovative strategies for teaching techniques, classroom management, student motivation, use of instructional materials, textbook adoption, and other activities relative to curriculum, instruction and assessment;
  • Keeping current with laws and regulations regarding curricular activities, special education and other related issues;
  • Collaborating with the AKU-FAS team in East Africa in the development of their curriculum and programmes;
  • Working with the Curriculum Advisory Committee and other AKU committees to develop plans for AKU-FAS's course and programme planning.

Requirements
Candidates should have:

  • PhD in a liberal arts field with experience in teaching of undergraduate courses;
  • Demonstrable leadership and planning skills;
  • Strong analysis and synthesis skills as evidenced by previous report-writing success, research publication or analogous activity;
  • Ability to take initiatives in response to emerging issues and to work cooperatively but also with a high degree of independence.
