Aga Khan University’s Institute for Educational Development, East Africa (AKU-IED EA) is convening its second Foundation for Learning (F4L) Conference on April 17, 2024 in Kampala, Uganda.
Themed "Empowering Educators: Building Transformative Ecosystems in East Africa and Beyond”, the conference aims to promote holistic strengthening of education systems in the region through partnerships and collaborative efforts.
The conference serves serve as a platform for sharing insights from the F4L project, discuss best practices, challenges, and explore collaboration opportunities within East Africa’s education sector.
Professor Jane Rarieya, Dean of AKU-IED EA said, “The focus of this conference is on teacher and school leadership development, with a special emphasis on gender equality in strengthening the foundations for learning. It is against this backdrop, that we have organized this conference to allow us to reflect, learn, and envision how we can build strong and robust education systems. Indeed, our collective efforts in enhancing teacher and school leadership capacities have far-reaching implications, not only for the quality of education but also for the holistic development of our societies.”
Empowering educators involves providing them with essential tools, resources, and support to enhance their competencies and expertise, thus fostering conducive environments to collaboration, creativity, and continuous professional growth.
Hon Dr John C. Muyingo, Minister of State for Higher Education and Sports, Uganda, emphasized, “The Aga Khan University, through its Foundations for Learning project, has organized this conference to provide us with an opportunity to reflect, learn, and envision how we can empower educators and foster transformative and inclusive educational ecosystems across Africa. Let us use this opportunity and leverage partnerships to strengthen our education systems and influence policy-making processes.”
Anticipated outcomes from the conference, outlined in the communique to be presented by project beneficiaries, are expected to spur action from ministries of education. This collective commitment aims to address critical education issues and ensure the sustainability of interventions with government support.
