Global Study on Diarrhoea Finds New Culprit in Pakistan, Recommends Fresh Interventions
The 3-year-long Global Enteric Multicenter Study enrolled more than 20,000 children from 7 sites across Asia and Africa. In Pakistan, the study was conducted by the Aga Khan University in four peri-urban field sites of Bin Qasim Town, Karachi. The study revealed that Cryptosporidium and Aeromonas are two significant bacteria that have long been underestimated for their ability to cause disease. GEMS also calls for mandatory routine immunisation for rotavirus.
