Dr. Muhammad Bazil Musharraf
Research Associate
Muhammad Bazil Musharraf, an Aga Khan University (AKU) graduate, embarked on his medical journey with an MBBS degree in 2021, followed by a clinical internship in 2022, where he earned the title of Runner-Up for Best Intern. In 2023, he joined CETE as a Dean’s Clinical Research Fellow, receiving the Runner-Up for Best DCRF award, and has since transitioned into a Research Associate role, now serving as Co-Principal Investigator on a university-funded grant. This project explores the impact of temperature on EMS activations and mortality across Punjab—an area that merges his interests in prehospital trauma, heat, and emergency medical services (EMS).
In his grant project, Bazil wears many hats. As the junior-most yet still the co-PI, he leads a multidisciplinary team comprising geospatial, Python, and advanced statistics research specialists. A hands-on researcher, he’s honed his skills in Stata and R, which he applies to the trauma registry and EMS data system projects. Additionally, he’s currently collaborating with Dr. Alex Sirney from Weill Cornell on a HEAT-Threatcasting project, where he’s involved in protocol design and conducting qualitative interviews.
Outside the research lab, Bazil is a 4x4 enthusiast and off-road adventurer. As part of the groups “All-Terrain Explorers” and “Overland Pakistan,” he enjoys traversing rugged terrains in Balochistan and camping under the stars. He even helped organize Pakistan's first extreme off-road competition at the Kharari River in August 2024. If he's not exploring new research avenues, you'll likely find him navigating uncharted trails!
