Biological Vulnerability to Extreme Heat

About the Project

With climate change exacerbating global temperatures, pregnant women and their fetuses are increasingly vulnerable to heat-related health risks. This project seeks to assess the physiological pathways and impacts of extreme heat stress on maternal and perinatal outcomes, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

Objectives

• Investigate the relationship between heat exposure and pregnancy complications using historical data.

• Prospectively study the impact of heat exposure on pregnancy through a cohort study.

• Develop mitigation strategies and interventions based on research findings.

IGHD is collaborating with the University of Oxford and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine on this critical initiative.
