Upper Gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding is a very common and life threatening medical emergency and needs skilled triage, assessment and treatment. 20 general physicians from across Pakistan participated in this workshop by applying their clinical skills and knowledge in simulated scenarios where patients with upper GI bleed arrive in emergency room. Learners took patient history, performed physical examination, investigated and managed all aspects of GI bleed.
During the simulation scenarios, the learners were coached by our experts; Dr Faisal Ismail and Dr Rustam Khan. They were provided feedback on their performances, identified strengths and evidence of learning during the debriefing session. They also had an opportunity to explore basic endoscopy module on the high fidelity GI mentor simulator. This workshop will help learners to become well versed with this procedure. We anticipate that this will eventually lead to improved patient outcomes.
