Accelerate Prosperity (AP) under the Aga Khan Foundation Pakistan (AKF,P) and the Ignite-National Technology Fund of Pakistan, Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication have signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly promote entrepreneurship across Pakistan. The Aga Khan University hosted the ceremony where the agreement was signed in the presence of the Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Syed Amin ul Haq and CEO AKF,P Akhtar Iqbal.
Both parties aim to provide business support services such as financing and technical assistance to Pakistan’s start-ups and small and growing businesses.
Ignite will collaborate with AP, part of the Aga Khan Development Network – along with the Aga Khan Rural Support Programme, the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) and the Aga Khan University – as an outreach and alliance partner for AP’s efforts to promote technological innovations in healthcare and education.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Minister Syed Amin ul Haq said: “This is a great initiative to build synergies between AKDN and the ministry and to promote innovative, sustainable businesses to boost private sector growth in Pakistan and create employment and income-earning opportunities in the country.”
AKF CEO Akhtar Iqbal also highlighted the objectives of the partnership during the event. “The mutual understanding of both parties will contribute to promoting public and private partnerships to develop an improved business environment. This partnership has great potential to contribute to private sector development in Pakistan,” he said.
The minister was briefed on AKU’s recent health technology and innovation initiatives by Saleem Sayani, director of AKDN’s Digital Health Resource Centre and AKU’s Technology Innovation Support Centre. The minister also viewed some of the innovations at the University during a tour of AKU’s Centre for Innovation in Medical Education.
The ceremony was attended by Ignite CEO Syed Junaid Imam, AKRSP General Manager Jamil Uddin Hisam, and AP Executive Director, Central and South Asia, Imran Shams along with AKU Vice Provost Dr Anjum Halai, and Provost’s Office Senior Advisor Fayaz Noormohamed.
