A while back we were pleased to share the news for expansion of CIME within the global AKU umbrella, with two planned centres in East Africa, Kenya and Uganda. Since then construction has progressed into final stages at the new University Centre in Nairobi, Kenya. Our team's recent visit to Nairobi, allowed them the opportunity to walk the floor of the new centre, which bought forth exciting vibes as they saw the scale of the new centre in actuality and the opportunities it can bring to the improvement of care in the region.
As they met with all the stakeholders from the university and hospital, the same sense of excitement was expressed by them, who are impatient to see the centre open its door next year. With both medical college and school of nursing and midwifery working towards initiating their undergraduate programmes, presence of CIME also present a unique platform for interprofessional engagement and skills development.
As we all put 2020 in our rear mirror, the new centre presents glimmer of hope for 2021 as the team works on the finalising details to allow the centre to meet the expectations of our colleagues in Nairobi.
