On 11th December 2021, AKU Nairobi hosted the first “Kids of AKU" day. CIME was one of the departments that hosted the participants, with five groups of thirty children, along with their parents and guardians, coming through the door.
Dr Wangui Thang'a engaged the groups in a demonstration of how CIME uses technology in teaching clinical skills to doctors and nurses. The new Code Blue III paediatric manikin showed patient vitals on screen programmed and was made to produce a variety of sounds - from vocal, cardiac and respiratory to help simulate a wide variety of medical conditions. The kids and parents were amazed.
This led to an interesting discussion about medical careers, with some of the children expressing an interest in pursuing careers in healthcare.
