At the invitation of Provost Amrhein, a delegation from Simon Fraser University, that included the Vice President of Research, the Director of International and the Dean of the Faculty of Environment visited Aga Khan University, Nairobi, Kenya from October 17 - 18, 2022. The trip comes as part of a larger emerging research project which AKU is co-developing with SFU on the AKU Arusha Environmental Research Reserve, looking at environmental sustainability and the impact of climate on the land, the surrounding communities, the biodiversity, agriculture etc.
The visit to Nairobi allowed the SFU team an opportunity to learn more about the work of AKU and Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) in the region, the impact of the AKDN, and opportunities to collaborate and to gain a better understanding of the kinds of research and environmental sustainability activities that we could undertake collaboratively. Areas of interest include the impact of the environment on human health, media and storytelling, maternal and child health and environmental sustainability,
Following the visit, a larger group will travel to Arusha to visit the AKU campus, meet local NGOs, donors and stakeholders to discuss opportunities around the existing land and the development of research projects with local and international partners.
