Impact is at the core of AKU's mission, and collaborating with like-minded partners such as the French Government is critical to enhancing this impact. AKU has always nurtured its partnerships with the intent to sustain and build on them overtime and its partnership with the French is no different. For decades, AKDN and its agencies, including AKU, have partnered with numerous French agencies including Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and ProParco, a subsidiary of AFD, in the areas of health, education, infrastructure and rural development. Among many initiatives, these partnerships have supported the establishment of the Heart and Cancer Centre at the Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi, which is conducting world class research and providing state-of-the-art treatment for a broad range of cancers, and have also provided financial and technical support to the French Medical Institute for Mothers and Children in Kabul, which is managed by AKU as part of a partnership of AKDN, La haîne de l'Espoir and the Governments of France and Afghanistan. AKU's collaboration with French agencies has expanded its impact universe manifold.
AKU in Karachi was fortunate to welcome a delegation comprising His Excellency Mr. Nicolas Galey, the Ambassador of France to Pakistan, his wife Mrs. Camélia Galey and Mr. Alexis Chahtahtinsky, Consul General of France on 13th October 2022. The delegation was apprised of the diversity of areas in which the University has made an impact. Keeping in mind the looming crisis of climate change, AKU's efforts surrounding environmental preservation, sustainability and waste management were also lauded by the delegation. During the tour of the premises, the delegates were given an overview of AKU's strategic operations, social impact and plans for the future by Mr. Sohail Kassamali, General Counsel and Chief of Staff, Office of the President.
In his conversations with the University leaders, H.E. Mr. Galey spoke about France's longstanding relationship with Pakistan and lauded the scale of impact the Aga Khan Development Network and the Aga Khan University's partnership with French agencies has had on the developing world. The delegation's visit to our campus reignited our common and long-standing vision of a sustainable future, accessible to all. The AKU leadership looks forward to its continued association with the French Republic to provide immediate and innovative solutions to the needs of communities, locally and globally.
