CIME celebrated Healthcare Simulation Week 2022 from September 12-16 to spread awareness on the importance of simulation-based education in improving the safety, effectiveness, and efficiency of healthcare delivery.
To celebrate this week in Karachi and Nairobi, CIME organised the following events:
Open House: Our team in Nairobi organised an Open House session for AKU faculty, staff, and students and externals. The visitors were invited to the Centre for Innovation in Medical Education to explore the newly opened centre and how it contributes towards quality healthcare education and improved patient outcomes.
Cardiac Simulation Workshop: A Cardiac Simulation Workshop was organised in Karachi which was facilitated by Dr Intisar Ahmed. By using high-fidelity simulator 'Mentice' participants were able to learn the latest techniques of percutaneous coronary investigation and intervention.
Laparoscopic Surgical Simulation Workshop: A surgical simulation workshop on Laparoscopy was offered to surgical fellows and residents. The participants used 'LapSim', a virtual-reality based laparoscopy high-fidelity simulator, to develop knowledge and skills of laparoscopic surgery, and to acquire depth perception and hand-eye coordination.
EyeSurg Tournament: The 2nd EyeSurg Tournament was arranged by CIME in partnership with the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. The aim was to engage residents and students in a competitive safe learning environment where they can practice eye surgery and improve their surgical skills.
The week provided an opportunity to spread awareness, connect internationally with the simulation community and develop a group of enthusiasts within the region to promote the use of simulation improve the delivery of healthcare education and patient care.
