Dr Faisal Ismail recently assumed the position of Interim Director for CIME. Dr Ismail is an Associate Professor and Gastroenterologist, as well as Vice-Chair, Education in the Department of Medicine at AKU. Dr Ismail is an educator with a keen interest in Healthcare Simulation. He is a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE), a qualification bestowed by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) and has a Masters’ degree in Healthcare Simulation from the University of Alabama in Birmingham, USA.
Dr Ismail has developed and conducted numerous endoscopy simulation workshops for CIME, and is an instructor in the Clinical Simulator Educators Program at CIME. He is also the Director of the Interprofessional Simulation Certificate course in liver diseases.
He completed his MBBS in 1997 and subsequently undertook a residency in Internal Medicine and Fellowship in Gastroenterology at AKU, where he served as Chief resident in both programmes. He is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy of the UK and an Inaugural Member of the Haile T. Debas Teachers Academy at the AKU. He has previously served as the Program Director for Gastroenterology in the PGME, and Chair of year 5 in the UGME programs in the Medical College.
