Five years ago, on December 15, 2017, His Highness the Aga Khan inaugurated the AKU's Centre for Innovation in Medical Education in Pakistan. In the last few years, CIME has fast acquired the reputation of being the most advanced healthcare simulation centre in Pakistan and East Africa, and the first in South Asia to be accredited by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH).
With its technologically immersive facility, cutting-edge equipment, and knowledge domain expertise, CIME plays a critical role in improving patient safety through high-quality experiential education for doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals across AKU and beyond. It has been the backbone of COVID-19 trainings for all staff making the hospital safe, designed mass casualty scenarios to prepare clinical teams for coordinated and effective action in unforeseen disasters, and used its birthing mannequins to teach safe deliveries, impacting maternal and child mortality rates in Pakistan. This only covers a fraction of the Centre’s work and its future goals as a Centre of Excellence in education, innovation, and research.
We would like to thank all our donors, faculty, staff, and students who have stood by us. We couldn't have made it this far and accomplished what we have without your support. We look forward to more glorious years of success ahead!
