A momentous class gift signing ceremony took place at Aga Khan University (AKU) on Tuesday, cementing the deep-rooted bond between the institution and its esteemed alumni. The Medical College MBBS Class of 1991 extended a generous endowment gift to their alma mater, solidifying their unwavering commitment to the progress of healthcare and education in Pakistan.
Dr. Adil Haider, Dean of AKU's Medical College, represented the University, highlighting the indispensable role played by alumni as the backbone of the institution. From the Class of '91, Dr. Hasnain Zafar, an illustrious member and revered faculty member at AKU, signed the agreement on behalf of his fellow alumni and emphasized the enduring bond that the Class of '91 shares with their cherished institution.
The endowed gift will be utilized to bolster AKU's Post Graduate Medical Education Programme (PGME) by providing training opportunities to physicians, junior faculty and allied health professionals within AKU and more importantly, sponsoring training at AKU for physicians from outside AKU. The goal is to enhance the quality, accessibility and delivery of healthcare across Pakistan.
The PGME programme has progressively woven itself into the very fabric of healthcare in Pakistan. Over the course of 26 years, the program has expanded from four to more than 70 specialized programs, many of which stand as pioneering initiatives within the nation. With over 3800 graduates, the PGME programme has significantly enriched the medical landscape within Pakistan. The program's commitment to excellence is further underscored by its numerous achievements, including the highest number of CPSPS-approved Residencies/Fellowships in Pakistan, a faculty comprising more than 215 approved CPSP supervisors, and the highest pass percentage on CPSP exams.
The ceremony echoed the sentiment that the past, present, and future of AKU are intrinsically interwoven towards the collective goal of academic advancement and community healthcare. We are grateful for the support of all our donors.
