The Institute for the Study of Muslim Civilisations (AKU-ISMC) and the Institute of Ismaili Studies (IIS) are delighted to announce the second annual IIS/AKU-ISMC Graduate Conference, focusing on "Challenges in Muslim Societies." This distinguished event will take place on September 25, 2024, from 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM at the Aga Khan Centre in London.
This year’s conference, a collaborative effort between AKU-ISMC and IIS, aims to highlight and showcase the exceptional research conducted by graduate students from both institutions. The conference will feature a diverse range of speakers who will present their findings on various aspects of Islamic studies.
The event is structured around four thematic panels:
- Identity and Making Space
- Media and Representation
- Oppression and Strife
- Ismaili Intellectual History
Following the scholarly presentations, attendees will be treated to an exclusive live concert, adding a cultural dimension to the day’s events.
The conference will be available for virtual participation via Zoom, enabling global access for the Jamat and other members of the IIS and AKU-ISMC communities.
Please be aware that filming and photography will be conducted throughout the event. These materials may be used on our website, newsletters, and social media platforms and will include general audience shots, speakers, and interactive sessions.
It is important to note that the views expressed by the presenting scholars reflect their individual perspectives and do not necessarily represent those of IIS, the Ismaili community, or its leadership. The promotion of this event does not imply an endorsement of the ideas presented.
