Moses Mutente, a well-known name in Tanzanian media, is taking his career to new heights by pursuing a Master's in Strategic Communications at Aga Khan University (AKU). With a passion for communication, leadership, and social change, Moses is driven to make a lasting impact.
He has excelled in various roles, from a Project Officer at DW Academy to a co-host on one of Tanzania's most popular radio shows, Joto la Asubuhi. His ability to connect with audiences, simplify complex issues, and inspire action has earned him a reputation as a thoughtful and influential communicator.
Choosing to pursue a master's degree at AKU was a strategic move. The university's renowned academic programmes, state-of-the-art facilities, and experienced faculty create an ideal environment for students to thrive. Moses is particularly drawn to the programme's practical focus, which aligns with his desire to apply his knowledge to real-world challenges.
One of the most valuable aspects of the programme for Moses has been learning how to engage audiences strategically. This knowledge has already benefited him in his work on Joto la Asubuhi, where he uses storytelling and emotional appeals to promote public health initiatives.
"I use facts that evoke emotion for action," he explains, citing how statistics on germs on mobile phones and door handles help to drive home the importance of hygiene.
Moses’s ability to combine academic learning with practical experience is also reflected in his research. Recently, he discovered that an article he had written about the reinvention of Uganda’s media post-COVID-19 had been cited in a master’s thesis at AKU. While he couldn’t view the article itself due to access restrictions, the realization that his work was being quoted in academic research was a proud moment for him, signalling his growing influence in the academic and media communities.
Moses’s ambition is to become a change-maker and a thought leader in the field of communication. He envisions himself working in various sectors, including development, and inspiring others through his work.
