In a first for the country, Kenya Simulation Network (KSN) was officially launched, marking a major milestone for healthcare education and practice in the country. This collaborative body unites hospitals and medical universities across Kenya, with a shared mission to advance healthcare delivery through simulation-based training and innovation.
The inaugural meeting brought together representatives from prominent institutions, including Kijabe AIC Hospital, Nanyuki Hospital, Kenya Medical Training College, Gertrude’s Hospital and the Aga Khan University Centre for Innovation in Medical Education (AKU-CIME), among others. Attendees were treated to an inspiring keynote lecture on the future of medical simulation, followed by interactive demonstrations showcasing the use of cutting-edge simulators in clinical training.
The event also set the stage for the establishment of four key committees, each tasked with advancing specific aspects of simulation in healthcare:
• Research and Evaluation
• Collaboration and Resource Sharing
• Quality Assurance and Standards
• Accreditation and Advocacy
These committees will play a pivotal role in shaping the direction of the Kenya Simulation Network and ensuring its sustainability as a hub for innovation and excellence.
“Bringing together important stakeholders and partners on to one platform such as the KSN will significantly benefit the future of healthcare simulation in Kenya, and subsequently healthcare in the country, ensuring that providers are well-equipped to meet the evolving needs of patients and communities. We’re quite excited and look forward to the outcomes that will follow,” said Dr Michael Moneypenny, Director, AKU-CIME East Africa.
With its collaborative spirit and forward-thinking vision, the Kenya Simulation Network invites healthcare institutions and professionals passionate about simulation-based training in healthcare to join the movement.
