We warmly congratulate our alumnus Muhammad Waqas Mirza for being accepted by Humboldt University of Berlin to take a PhD in South Asian Studies.
Sharing his thoughts on the opportunity, Muhammad said, "My penchant for studying politics and history led me to study a BA in Political Science in my home country Pakistan, followed by an MA in Muslim Cultures at AKU-ISMC, London, in 2018. At AKU-ISMC, I studied courses on political history, focused on South Asian dynamics, and got the opportunity to work closely with the former director, Dr David Taylor (one of the leading experts on South Asia). Experiencing life in London influenced my interests in colonial history, and I chose a topic on British India for my MA dissertation. I am grateful to AKU-ISMC for the generous funding that they provided me to conduct archival research at the British Library, and a field trip to Bahawalpur, Pakistan, where I conducted semi-structured interviews as part of my thesis. The journey did not end there as my research experience at AKU-ISMC prepared me well for doctoral studies and I got accepted at the Humboldt University of Berlin, one of the prestigious universities in Europe."
