Dr Zulfiqar Ahmed Bhutta, Founding Director, Institute for Global Health and Development at Aga Khan University (AKU), has been awarded the prestigious Nils Rosén von Rosenstein Medal by the Swedish Paediatric Association and the Swedish Society of Medicine at Uppsala University in Sweden.
This distinguished honour recognizes his contributions to global child health guidelines and advances in maternal, newborn and child health care.
"It's a great honour to receive this recognition," said Dr Bhutta. "But it's also a reminder of the shared commitment among paediatricians worldwide to protect and promote the health of children."
The Nils Rosén von Rosenstein Medal, named after the distinguished physician and scientist who championed children's health in the 18th century, celebrates the outstanding achievements of paediatricians every five years.
Dr Bhutta's work at AKU and beyond is much more than academia and research – his expertise has shaped public health policies worldwide, from the World Health Organization to grassroots initiatives across South Asia and sub-Saharan Africa, transforming maternal, newborn, and child health, improving the lives of millions.
Throughout his career, Dr Bhutta has received numerous accolades including the John Dirks Canada Gairdner Global Health Award, Pakistan's Pride of Performance and Sitara-e-Imtiaz, and, most recently, his appointment as an Officer of the Order of Canada.
