Introduction

The Outreach and Research Programme of the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health has ten community-based field sites across Pakistan (including four in Karachi) and focuses on research for betterment of women and child health. The Department has a Nutritional Research Laboratory as well as an Infectious Disease Research Laboratory that cater to the needs of its research projects. It has well-acclaimed work to its credit both at the national and international level.

The Aga Khan University invites applications for the grant-funded contractual position of Driver in the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health based in Karachi.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible to:
  • operate assigned vehicle in a safe and courteous manner
  • transport staff / patients and goods / office supplies / laboratory specimens
  • maintain defensive driving
  • keep the assigned vehicle(s) clean inside and outside
  • maintain accurate, up-to-date records on trip sheets, transportation forms / log book, vehicle maintenance, fuel purchases, incident reports, accident reports, vehicle condition reports and other records that are requested from management
  • perform minor maintenance tasks on assigned vehicle(s) as required
  • coordinate the schedule for major or periodic vehicle maintenance with management and staff to minimize service interruptions
  • respond immediately to accident or medical emergencies by notifying emergency response providers, and rendering First Aid until emergency personnel arrive
  • safely carry goods, office supplies, medicines etc. and place at assigned locations during transportation
  • perform special duty in driving international guests from donor agencies as per direction(s) from management
  • carry out daily inspections of vehicles ensuring cleanliness inside and out
  • maintain daily record on the transportation log-book / sheet
  • any other tasks assigned by the management.

Requirements

You should have:
  • a minimum of basic general education
  • a current, valid HTV driving license
  • good interpersonal skills
  • courteous and polite nature 
  • strong commitment to the aims & objectives of the service 
  • an honest, reliable and trustworthy personality.
