The Department of Paediatrics & Child Health at Aga Khan University is committed to providing state-of-the-art clinical services and quality care to children. We impart undergraduate and postgraduate training and undertake community-oriented research of public health importance. 

The Outreach and Research Programme of the Department of Paediatrics & Child Health has nine community-based field sites across Pakistan (including five in Karachi) and focuses on research for the betterment of women and child health. The Department has a Nutritional Research Laboratory as well as an Infectious Disease Research Laboratory that caters to the needs of its research projects. It has well-acclaimed work to its credit both at the national and international level.

The Aga Khan University invites applications for the position of Research Associate in the Department of Paediatrics & Child Health.

Responsibilities

The incumbent is required to demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care appropriate to the needs and characteristics of the population served and to apply this expertise to conduct meaningful research in the field of pediatric palliative care. Moreover, you will be responsible for:

  • serving as a clinical researcher and educator
  • serving as a clinical research expert in nursing care for patients receiving care from the QoL team
  • demonstrating the ability to assess and interpret population-specific data about the patient's status
  • maintaining palliative care patient database with data entry and collection
  • contributing to research activities that are related to paediatric palliative care
  • participating in conferences of the research area
  • home health care referrals and enrolment
  • scheduling and following up on patient appointments, answering routine questions from patients, and family, exhibiting effective communication skills
  • collaborating with other healthcare professionals to provide efficient quality patient care
  • maintaining effective communication with following up patients and families, showing interest in intake of new inpatient consultant 
  • improving teaching and nursing practices and improving research focus of nurses having special interest
  • coordinating care conferences, palliative care visits with oncology and non-oncology clinic schedule
  • coordinating discharge follow-up calls.

Requirements

You should have:

  • BScN from an accredited school of nursing
  • at least 1 to 2 years of relevant work experience in Paediatrics Nursing
  • research work experience (if any)
  • developed and maintained educational material for patients/families
  • ability to manage patient database
  • ability to showcase respect towards diverse cultural differences
  • ability to take initiatives in the improvement of quality
  • excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks efficiently
  • enthusiasm to work along with strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • staff management experience and must be a team player.
