The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at The Aga Khan University is a dynamic academic center which serves the diagnostic needs of the country through its clinical laboratory services that is spread across Pakistan. AKUH's Clinical Laboratory is College of American Pathologists (CAP) accredited and caters to the needs of the entire country through its tertiary lab at the main campus, 300+ specimen collection units and 13 stat labs across Pakistan. 

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine consists of five major sections namely Chemical Pathology, Haematology and Transfusion Medicine, Histopathology, Microbiology, and Molecular Pathology. Each section is academically driven and is highly engaged in research and undergraduate, postgraduate teaching and training.

Responsibilities

As a consultant, you will be responsible for:
  • Expertise in Diagnostics: Proficient in molecular and cytogenetic diagnostics with a strong interest in advancing pathology. Focus on developing new companion diagnostics for various conditions including hematology, stem cell transplantation, solid tumor malignancies, and prenatal postnatal diseases
  • Teaching: Dedicated to educating and mentoring students and residents
  • Professional Development: Participate in sectional, departmental, institutional, national, and international meetings, conferences, sessions, and workshops, subject to fund availability
  • Administrative Duties: Participate in department administrative committees as assigned by the sectional head or department chairperson
  • Research: Engage in innovative research activities and contribute to advancements in pathology

Requirements

You should have:
  • an MBBS degree with FCPS/FRCPath/ American Board certified or equivalent certification in clinical cytogenetics and Molecular genetics /Pathology & equivalent
  • at least 2 years of relevant experience to the level of Senior Instructor or equivalent
  • the ability to regularly share expertise with team members to support continuous learning and improvement
  • the ability to adapt to new ideas and initiatives across a wide variety of issues or situations and respond with new approaches to deal with changing demands
  • the ability to build relationships with team members and with other work units and build collaborations
  • the ability to communicate and do hand off procedures without ambiguity with other members of the health care team
  • the ability to provide performance feedback and support and encourage staff to develop and apply their skills
