Introduction

Chartered in 1983, Aga Khan University (AKU) is a private, autonomous, and self-governing international university, with 13 teaching sites in 6 countries over three continents. An integral part of the Aga Khan Development Network, AKU provides higher education in multiple health science and social science disciplines, carries out research pertinent primarily to low- and middle-income countries and operates 7 hospitals (soon 8) and over 325 outreach clinics, all at international standards. It has almost 2,500 students and 14,000 staff. The University is both a model of academic excellence and an agent of social change. As a leading international institution dedicated to excellence and change, AKU operates on the core principles of quality, relevance, impact, and access.

AKU has 40 years of experience in the field of education and research serving populations across three continents. In East Africa, the Aga Khan University is establishing a consulting service that provides technical expertise to clients internal to the Aga Khan Development Network as well as external clients and partners. 

Responsibilities

The Aga Khan University is soliciting expression of interest (EoI) from eligible experts in the below stated thematic areas to supplement existing expertise within the University and to engage in project opportunities as they arise.
  • Population Health. 
  • Women’s Health
  • Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn and Child Health. 
  • Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health. 
  • Communicable and Non-communicable Diseases; Nutrition.
  • Mental Health. 
  • Health Systems
Within these key areas, consultants/experts shall demonstrate experience in any of the following major subject areas: evidence based health policy development; epidemiology; biostatistics including clinical and field data analysis, and quantitative as well as qualitative methods,  health information and surveillance systems and health informatics; health systems  strengthening with focus on access to quality of care; health workforce capacity building and institutional development; health service management; community-based health care and strengthening of the interface between the levels of care; eHealth and eLearning; health education and behavior change communication; public health advocacy, health care financing and health economics; grant-writing; communication and media; scientific translation and editing. 

The University’s specific mandate is to apply context relevant research and implementation programmes in the above-mentioned areas as well as monitoring, evaluation and learning. Geographical focus is primarily East-Africa/ sub-Saharan Africa, with the potential to also work within our global Network in Central and South-East Asia. We are working in partnership with national, regional, and decentralized governments and collaborate with development partners including multilateral and bilateral organizations, universities, research institutions and the private business sector.  

Requirements


  • Applicants should have a minimum of master’s degree with 2 years of continuous work experience.
