Introduction

Department of Oncology at The Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi is a patient centered comprehensive state-of-the-art cancer management facility. The main objective of the Department is to provide first class leading edge cancer services.

Radiation Oncology section at Aga Khan University Hospital is equipped with 4 Varian Medical Linear accelerators, 1 HDR Brachytherapy Afterloader, 1 Varian Simulator, Mold Room and a PET-CT Simulator. 

Aga Khan University invites applications for the position of 2 years Trainee Medical Physicist.

The two years medical physics certificate program is designed to produce highly trained personnel who can make a direct contribution to the improvement of health care through better radiation therapy practices. The certificate program consists of Didactic courses and clinical hands-on experience related to medical physics specialty.

Responsibilities

The program is designed to provide proficiency in the following:

  • Understand the entire Radiotherapy process
  • Understand patient simulation setup and use of various immobilization devices
  • External beam radiotherapy, brachytherapy and Special Procedures in RT
  • Performs 3D conformal radiotherapy and intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT/VMAT) dose calculations using treatment planning system
  • Perform Quality Controls on Linear accelerators, Radiotherapy simulator and Brachytherapy machine
  • Radiation Protection
  • Compliance with organizational policies and standards of quality care
  • Participate in research and development projects.

Requirements

You must possess:

  • M.Sc or 4-years B.S. degree in Physics from an HEC recognized university.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate in a team.

Full time employment may be offered upon successful completion of the traineeship program and subject to availability of vacant position(s).
