The Centre of Excellence in Women and Child Health (CoEWCH) was established in 2012 as a research unit within the obstetrics and gynaecology department of the Aga Khan University (AKU) with Prof Zulfiqar A Bhutta as the Founding Director. In 2015, Prof Marleen Temmerman was welcomed as the East Africa (EA) Director of the Centre to build capacity across East Africa. CoEWCH EA conducts research, knowledge translation, capacity building, and evidence-based advocacy in reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health and rights to improve the health and wellbeing of women, children, and adolescents. With a focus on establishing high quality education, multidisciplinary research, and trainings in women, child, and adolescent health, the Centre contributes to health systems strengthening and quality of care, particularly in remote groups and vulnerable populations.

Job Summary

The purpose of this assignment is to review transcribed/translated transcripts (IDIs, FGDs, & KIIs), code, and provide coding summaries using NVIVO as per the provided codebook for AIMIX Project. The AIMIX project (Inclusive Artificial Intelligence for Obstetric Imaging in Resource Limited Settings) has a qualitative component that involves collection and analysis of qualitative data to ensure that the development and implementation of imaging AI technologies align with local ethical values and social contexts as one of its objectives.    

Responsibilities

  • Coding & Summaries
  • Code qualitative data from interviews (IDIs, KIIs and FGDs) using NVIVO qualitative data analysis software 
  • Work with the SC to refine coding frameworks and thematic categories based on the research objectives and data collected.
  • Identify key themes, patterns, and insights from the data
  • Prepare coding summaries and insights from the data
  • Collaborate with the research team to ensure consistency and accuracy in coding and analysis.
  • Participate in regular team meetings to discuss progress, share insights, and address any challenges.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, Anthropology, Public Health, or a related field. 
  • At least 3 years of experience in qualitative data coding and analysis.
  • Proficiency in using qualitative data analysis software specifically NVivo.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in English is preferred.
  • Knowledge of ethical guidelines and protocols for research involving human participants.

  • You will be expected to maintain strict confidentiality of the study material/ documents provided for the purposes of this task.
  • You will, at all times, during the period of your contract safeguard the reputation of Aga Khan University
  • Your payment will be subject to Withholding Tax deduction as per Kenyan Law.
  • You will be expected to provide AKU-EA finance office with your PIN, bank details to facilitate your payment.
  • Your payment will be subject to provision of signed schedule /invoice to the AKU-EA finance office confirming work done in line with the project goals.
