Introduction

Aga Khan University, chartered in 1983 as Pakistan's first private international university, is committed to the provision of education, research, and health care of international standard relevant to Pakistan and the region. The affiliated Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) has well-equipped investigative services and provides state-of-the-art clinical facilities. AKUH is the first hospital in Pakistan to be awarded the prestigious Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) for practicing the highest internationally recognized healthcare standards.

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at The Aga Khan University is a dynamic academic centre which serves the diagnostic needs of the country through its clinical laboratory services that spreads across Pakistan. AKUH’s Clinical Laboratory is College of American Pathologists (CAP) accredited and caters to the need of the entire country through its tertiary lab at the main campus and 300+ specimen collection units and 13 stat labs across Pakistan.

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine consists of five major sections namely Chemical Pathology, Haematology & Transfusion Medicine, Histopathology, Microbiology, and Molecular Pathology. Each section is academically driven and is highly engaged in research and undergraduate, postgraduate teaching and training.

The Section of Histopathology has a state-of-the-art, semi-automated laboratory that can accommodate all samples for diagnosis according to international standards. The section provides services for diagnosis of neoplastic and non-neoplastic lesions. Test menus include a vast panel of Immunohistochemical stains to help in reaching an accurate diagnosis in difficult cases and have a large and experienced faculty with diverse subspecialty interests.
 
The section houses up to 16 residents, who have daily hands-on practical training during routine daily sign-out with consultants.

Responsibilities

You will be expected to have independent consultant status and undertake regular services and specified administrative activities. Specific responsibilities include to:

  • provide accessible, compassionate, ethical, evidence based and patient centered care to all patients in the Laboratory set-up
  • participate in departmental and organizational performance and quality improvement activities
  • demonstrate sound theoretical knowledge of current areas of practice and relate it to patient care.

Requirements

You should have:

  • MBBS, structured postgraduate training from a reputable institution
  • FCPS, FRCPath, American Board, Ph.D. or equivalent qualification
  • at least one to two years experience in a tertiary care hospital after clearance of post graduate examination.
  • excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • ability to work independently as well as a team
  • ability to work under pressure
  • proficiency in use of related computer software packages
  • good interpersonal skills and commitment to learning, growth, and self-development.
