Introduction

The Aga Khan University Hospital in addition to its five Hospitals creates access through its Outreach Services which include Clinical Laboratories, Outpatient Medical Centers, Pharmacy services, Home Health, and other services. Outreach Services are designed to provide primary to secondary healthcare services to patients near their homes and are present in several cities across Pakistan.

Physiotherapy and rehabilitation department at AKUH provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services to assist adults and children in improving their physical and neurological disabilities. Psychological, social and vocational interventions are some of the modalities that are employed in order to restore physical functions, minimize pain and disability of the patients.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible to:

  • assess patients, develop, and deliver individualized Physical therapy treatment programs for those with medical ailments or health related issues that limit movement or abilities in everyday activities;
  • perceptual psychosocial activities and instrumental activities of daily living and activities of daily living;
  • assess patients for the need for adaptive equipment and/or assistive devices;
  • liaise with medical personnel in daily ward rounds and with peers in the outpatient rehabilitation department to obtain relevant information about the progress/needs of patients;
  • educate and advising patients and their family regarding the diagnosed condition, the treatment plan, the expected prognosis and the short and long term goals;
  • participate in internal (in-house) and/or external training programs and research activities;
  • interact professionally with patients, families, peers, medical and health care personnel;
  • write patient assessment and progress notes according to the designed format
  • comply with the department policies and organizational quality standards i.e. JCIA.

Requirements

You should have/be:

  • DPT in Physical Therapy from a recognized university.
  • Minimum one year of experience as Physical Therapy or one year of a Traineeship, preferably in a hospital.
  • Knowledge of physical therapy theory, techniques, and equipment.
  • Ability to perform physical therapy procedures and apply/use assistive devices/gait aides.
  • experience in pain management will be preferred
  • good interpersonal skills, particularly communication skills
  • good command in the use of computer applications, particularly MS Office
  • willingness to work independently as well as in teams and handle work pressure.
