The Professional Development Centre North (PDCN), located in Gilgit, plays a crucial role in advancing these objectives, offering specialized programs and initiatives to address the unique educational needs of Northern Pakistan.

This is a unique opportunity to lead an educational entity in an area that is both intellectually ready for a big leap and physically picturesque. As the Head of the Professional Development Centre, North, Gilgit, you will play a central role in advancing quality education and professional development initiatives across Northern Pakistan, aligning efforts with the strategic objectives of AKU-IED. This role involves promoting regional and national partnerships, managing educational research projects, and ensuring sustainable impact through capacity-building programs.

Responsibilities

You will be resposible to:
  • provide direction for PDCN’s activities in line with AKU’s mission, including setting annual goals, planning projects, and evaluating outcomes to promote educational excellence;
  • oversee and innovate PDCN’s professional development and certification programs aimed at educators, school leaders, and communities. This includes resource planning, budget management, and curriculum enhancement to address regional educational needs;
  • lead applied research projects in key areas such as teacher development, curriculum enhancement, and policy influence, aiming to contribute significantly to educational discourse both regionally and nationally;
  • build and strengthen collaborations with key stakeholders, including government agencies, academic institutions, NGOs, and local community organizations, to drive sustainable development and maximize program reach;
  • ensure efficient management of PDCN’s operations, including human resources, financial administration, and compliance with AKU policies. Actively participate in resource mobilization efforts to support the centre's growth and impact;
  • develop and implement fundraising strategies to secure grants, endowments, and partnerships that support the PDCN’s programmes and long-term sustainability;
  • cultivate a positive organizational culture by providing mentorship, supporting professional growth, and fostering a collaborative environment for PDCN’s staff.

Requirements


Qualifications and Experience:
  • Master’s degree in Education, Development Studies, Management, or a closely related field; a PhD in Education or a relevant field is preferred.
  • At least 10 years of progressive leadership experience in education, development, or a related sector, with proven expertise in program design, community engagement, and resource management.
Skills and Competencies:
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills with the ability to inspire and manage a diverse workforce.
  • Excellent project management skills, including budgeting, reporting, and quality assurance.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct and oversee educational  and development projects with a focus on practical applications.
  • Proven skills in partnership building and stakeholder management at local and national levels.
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of local languages and cultural context is highly desired.
