Dr Peter Gatiti
Associate Vice-Provost and University Librarian
Dr Peter Gatiti is the Associate Vice Provost and University Librarian at the Aga Khan University (AKU). He oversees AKU's global network of 12 libraries dispersed in 6 countries on 3 continents situated on the diverse AKU campuses in Pakistan, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and the UK. His research interests focus on library and information science, systematic reviews, evidence-based practice, bibliometric analysis and knowledge management.
Prior to joining AKU, Peter was the Specialist Librarian at the Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust (West Yorkshire, UK). This afforded him the opportunity to collaborate in teaching evidence-based practice, and he was also part of the Mid Yorks Medical Journal editorial team. He previously worked as a Database Developer at the University of Leeds (West Yorkshire, UK), where he developed and maintained an online course booking system for the Library Skills Centre.
Peter holds a PhD from the University of Bolton (Greater Manchester, UK). He also holds an MSc in Information Systems from Leeds Metropolitan University (West Yorkshire, UK) and a BLS (Hons) in Information and Library Studies from Loughborough University (Leicestershire, UK). In addition, he is a Chartered Manager with a level 5 Diploma from the Chartered Management Institute (UK). Peter has attended fellowship and training programs at Harvard University (USA), the University of Illinois (USA), and the University of Alberta (Canada).
As a peer reviewer for the Commission for University Education (CUE) in Kenya, he has great insight into quality assessment systems and is actively involved in teaching and research activities at Aga Khan University.
Peter serves as a standing committee member of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), Statistics and Evaluation Section. He is also a member of the American Library Association, the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP), the Kenya Library Association, and the Kenya Library and Information Services Consortium.
He is leading a team of researchers from Aga Khan University in implementing a Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights repository, a project funded by WHO. He was also part of the team that developed a monitoring and evaluation toolkit for information literacy, a project funded by DFID.
