Amin Mawji, OBE

Amin MAWJI OBE is the Diplomatic Representative of the Aga Khan Development Network accredited to Kenya and Uganda.

Mr. Mawji was previously a senior Partner at Ernst & Young (EY) in the UK, where he held a number of leadership positions. He graduated in Economics from the London School of Economics and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales. Over a professional career spanning 35 years, he has advised on several corporate transactions, mergers and acquisitions.

Upon retirement from professional practice in 2013, Mr. Mawji was appointed by the UK Government as Non-Executive Director on the Board of UK Export Finance and the UK Trade & Industry Board. He is a past President of His Highness the Aga Khan’s National Council for the UK and Chairman of the Royal Commonwealth Society for the Blind Pension Fund. He has also served on the Boards of Sightsavers International, the Social Enterprise Loan Fund and the Kyrgyz Investment & Credit Bank. He currently serves on the Freedom Declared Foundation. Mr Mawji was appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Aga Khan University in April 2021.​

Mr. Mawji is the author of “Programmed for Control”, a best-practice guide on risk management of long-term projects. His recent publication titled ‘Poverty to Prosperity” brings best practice ideas on international development. He has served on the Risk and Audit Committees of the UK Government’s Department for International Development and the University of Central Asia.

He has been named as one of Britain’s Top 100 BAME Business Leaders, Britain’s Most Influential Asians in the Power101 List, and as one of Britain’s Muslim Power100. He was the first recipient of the British Muslim Award for services to Finance. In 2012, he was conferred an honour by Her Majesty the Queen and appointed an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his public service.
