Mr Badaruddin F. Vellani
Mr Vellani graduated as a chemical engineer in 1980 after which he went on to do law and was called to the bar from Middle Temple London in 1982. He returned to Pakistan and commenced his practice. He is enrolled as an Advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Mr. Vellani is senior partner at the law firm of Vellani & Vellani. He has focused his legal practice on commercial matters, including mergers and acquisitions, divestments, finance and taxation and represented clients from diverse sectors ranging from food and beverage to pharmaceuticals, petroleum and vehicles. Mr. Vellani also practices in the area of intellectual property matters, with a focus on patents, designs, trademarks and copyrights.
Mr. Vellani has contributed extensively of his time and knowledge to the AKDN and to civil society more broadly as a volunteer, including as Chairman of the National Committee of Aga Khan Foundation, Pakistan; Governor of Hisaar Foundation (a not-for-profit foundation promoting water, food and livelihood security); and Director of Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy. He assisted in the establishment of Habib University in Karachi as a founding member of their board and in drafting their charter. Mr. Vellani is currently the President and CEO of the Governing Body of the Aga Khan Hospital and Medical College Foundation.
Mr. Vellani’s was appointed to the AKU Board of Trustees on 24th April 2020.
