Dementia is a growing concern worldwide, particularly in low- and middle-income countries like Kenya. There is a pressing need for diagnostic tools that account for the unique cultural, linguistic, educational, and economic factors in African settings.
Our study focuses on creating and validating diagnostic measures and biomarkers specifically for dementia research in Kenya. We will recruit 200 participants from Nairobi County, including individuals with mild cognitive impairment, dementia, and cognitively unimpaired individuals. Through comprehensive assessments and advanced statistical methods, we aim to identify the most effective diagnostic tools.
The ultimate goal is to develop a diagnostic toolkit tailored for Kenya, aiding accurate identification of dementia cases and supporting large-scale prevalence studies, risk reduction initiatives, and interventional research. This effort will enhance the understanding and management of dementia in Kenya, improving outcomes for those affected.
