Ladies and gentlemen,
As-salaam-o-alaikum.
This moment marks the culmination of years of determination, countless challenges, and dreams that brought us together. Today, we celebrate not only our achievements but also the resilience, faith, and unity that define our journey. Standing here, I am deeply honored to represent a class that has grown and inspired in remarkable ways. I am also deeply honoured to add the voice of the Class of 2024 to all those thanking AKU’s Founder. We know that, ultimately, it’s because of His Highness that AKU exists, and that we had the opportunity to get such an amazing education.
When I joined AKU, I thought that I had all it takes to embark on this journey alone. I was far from right! It took me some time to realize that I was not going far without the support of my classmates, seniors, and faculty. Sometimes, even the simple - yet energetic - Salaam from the guard in the morning, was what gave me the strength to make it to class. This journey has been about more than just academics; it has been a lesson in the power of togetherness.
Our time at AKU has been nothing short of transformative. From those tentative first steps on campus to the confident strides we take today. Through challenges and triumphs, we have discovered the spirit that makes AKU exceptional: the courage to face the unknown, the agility to evolve, and the perseverance to overcome. These values became our strength as we tackled demanding coursework, put up with “economy” meals, approached global challenges, and built friendships that will last a lifetime.
We will always remember the exhilaration of marathon finishes, the buzz of symposiums sparking new ideas, and the joy of courtyard gatherings that turned into unforgettable cultural performances. And let’s not forget those chai cups and samosas that we shared along the way. That is 5% of my weight that I am not losing any time soon!
As we reflect on our journey, let’s not forget the incredible support of those around us. To the leadership at AKU: thank you for empowering us to get to this moment today. To our professors and staff, working tirelessly behind the scenes, your efforts have made our success possible. To our families and loved ones: Thank you for believing in us as we embraced this path. And to my fellow graduates, this day would not have been possible unless for all of you.
His Highness the Aga Khan’s vision of pluralism as vital to our existence reminds us of the diverse community we have built here and the inclusive world we aim to shape. As graduates of AKU, we are charged with the responsibility to carry this vision forward—to bridge gaps, create solutions, and be agents of positive change.
Class of 2024, as we stand on the brink of endless possibilities, let’s have the faith to keep going, no matter what challenges lie ahead. As we step into the world, let us ensure that we leave each place better than we found it.
The world is waiting for us, and we are ready for it! Congratulations, Class of 2024!
