Tolstoy ke Hikayaat – The Fables of Leo Tolstoy
We are delighted to present a series of Leo Tolstoy's timeless fables, translated by Ms. Fainaana Farnaam, an translator, peace activitist and friend of AKU-IED. Originally written for the children in his village school, these stories convey important life lessons through kings, peasants, and talking animals. Tolstoy's aim was to teach children the values of goodness, humanity, and social justice.
Ms Farnaam's motivation for translating these fables stems from her belief in the power of storytelling to impart morals in an engaging and simple way. She, like many of us, grew up hearing stories, and as a mother, she shared these tales with her own children. These fables, rich with lessons and imagination, are designed to help children develop a love for reading, enhance their Urdu and English language skills, and encourage them to ask important questions.
In an era dominated by technology, it is more important than ever to bring children back to books. Stories not only spark creativity but also offer valuable lessons. At the end of each story, children will find questions to help them reflect on the central message.
