Biological Vulnerability to Extreme Heat
About the Project
With climate change exacerbating global temperatures, pregnant women and their fetuses are increasingly vulnerable to heat-related health risks. This project seeks to assess the physiological pathways and impacts of extreme heat stress on maternal and perinatal outcomes, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
Objectives
Investigate the relationship between heat exposure and pregnancy complications using historical data.
Prospectively study the impact of heat exposure on pregnancy through a cohort study.
Develop mitigation strategies and interventions based on research findings.
Research Partners
IGHD is collaborating with the University of Oxford and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine on this critical initiative.
