Welcome to the Department of Family Medicine, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
We take pride in being the first institution to offer Family Medicine training in Tanzania since 2004. Our program is based at the Aga Khan Hospital, Dar es Salaam, a not-for-profit hospital dedicated to providing quality healthcare across Tanzania and East Africa. The hospital is renowned for setting the standard in comprehensive healthcare services and modern medical education. As the only institution in Tanzania to receive Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA), we uphold the highest standards of care and medical education.
Our faculty members, trained both locally and internationally, are passionate about advancing Family Medicine education. Alongside our dedicated residents and staff, we work tirelessly to ensure that the next generation of Family Medicine leaders is well-prepared to meet the challenges of the evolving healthcare landscape.
We have a proud history of recruiting outstanding residents who are deeply committed to primary care and the values of community-based healthcare. Our program attracts residents from across the region, including Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Ghana, and beyond, creating a dynamic and enthusiastic cohort of future Family Medicine professionals.
Our entire team, including administrators, doctors, and nurses, is committed to supporting the residents throughout their four-year training journey. We work closely with each resident to ensure they receive the guidance, mentorship, and practical experience needed to excel in the field. The Family Medicine program at Aga Khan University, Medical College, East Africa, Dar es Salaam, is proud to be a pioneer in training leaders in Family Medicine across the region.
