Message from the Chair

I am privileged to introduce you to our department and the programs we offer; Hematology, Oncology, Radiation Oncology, and Palliative/Supportive Care. As the Chair of Hematology-Oncology, I am honored to lead a team of dedicated clinicians, clinical-investigator, fellows, nurses, and support staff who are committed to providing exceptional care and advancing the field of hematology and oncology.

At the Aga Khan University Hospital Nairobi, we strive to deliver compassionate, personalized care to individuals facing blood disorders and cancer. Our multidisciplinary approach brings together experts from various specialties to ensure comprehensive treatment plans tailored to each patient's unique needs. The diagnosis of cancer or a blood disorder can be overwhelming, and it is our mission to provide care that has an impact, is relevant, meets the highest standard of quality, and allows access to all who come to our doors.

With a focus on evidence-based medicine and cutting-edge research, we aim to provide our patients access to the latest advancements in hematology and oncology. Our commitment to clinical trials and innovative therapies allows us to offer state-of-the-art treatment options that may not be widely available elsewhere in Sub-Saharan Africa. Through collaboration with leading institutions and participation in national and international research efforts, we are actively contributing to the development of new knowledge and breakthroughs in our field.

Our goal is to have Africa represented on the world stage of academic hematology and oncology, and that our treatment outcomes contribute to knowledge relevant to the population we serve.

In addition to our clinical services, we are deeply invested in education and training. We strive to shape the future of hematology and oncology through our fellowship programs, mentoring the next generation of hematologists, oncologists, radiation oncologists, and palliative care physicians. Our commitment to education extends beyond our institution, as we actively engage in community outreach programs to raise awareness about cancer prevention, early detection, and the importance of regular screenings.
