Medical Oncology Faculty
The Section of Medical Oncology has three full-time faculty committed to advancing evidence-based, state of the art treatment for patients with a variety of solid tumor cancers. We have a fully equipped cancer unit that can provide comprehensive holistic care to our patients and their families while undergoing treatment for their cancer. Our cancer unit has a satellite oncology pharmacy unit within its compound to expedite delivery of medications to our patients. Our nurses are trained and experienced in providing chemotherapy to ensure excellent patient care and patient safety. We follow international guided treatment protocols focusing on modern biologics, immunotherapy and molecular directed treatments to provide specific and targeted therapy to our patients.
Prof Mansoor Saleh, MD, MMed, FRCPathProfessor and Chair
Prof Mansoor Saleh is the Chair, Department of Haematology-Oncology at the Aga Khan University Medical College, East Africa. He received his early education in the Aga Khan School system in East Africa, his medical education at the University of Heidelberg in Germany and conducted his doctoral research at the Max Planck Institute for Medical Research in Heidelberg.
He received his training in internal medicine at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit Michigan and clinical and translational research training in Hematology & Oncology at the University of Alabama Comprehensive Cancer Center in Birmingham, Alabama where he was tenured Professor of Medicine & Pathology and Director of the First-in-Human Early Drug Development Program.
His area of research and clinical focus is “targeted therapy of cancer.” In January 2020, he joined the Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi, Kenya as the Founding Chair, Department of Hematology – Oncology and Founding Director - Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi, Cancer Center.

Dr Manel Haj, MBChB, MMed Senior Instructor
Dr Manel Haj is a Consultant Medical Oncologist and Section Head of Medical Oncology at the Aga Khan University Medical College, East Africa. She is also the current Fellowship Program Director and a member of the Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi Ethics Committee.
She graduated from the University de Tunis El Manar, where she undertook her core Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology training where she received her certificate of completion in 2017. She has also received part of her training at the Gustave Roussy Institute of cancer treatment in Paris, France.
She has previously worked as consultant medical oncologist and lecturer at Abdurrahman Mami University Hospital, Tunisia and at a leading health care facility in Nairobi.
Dr Haj is passionate about increasing cancer awareness and promoting screening and early detection. She has a special interest in precision oncology and clinical research and is currently investigator in several clinical trials in the Cancer Research Unit at Aga Khan University Hospital.
She is a member of American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO) and Tunisian Society of Medical Oncology (TSMO) and the Kenya Society of Hematology and Oncology (KESHO).

Dr Amina Habib, MD, MMed, RCP UKSenior Instructor
Dr Amina Habib is a clinician with ten years of clinical experience and three years teaching experience of undergraduate and postgraduate medicine students. She received her undergraduate medical degree from the University of Istanbul in Turkey in the year 2010 and subsequently worked as a medical Intern at the Kerugoya District Hospital.
She then moved to the Nairobi Hospital where she worked through her residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Medical Oncology at the University of Nairobi. She managed to publish her dissertations both at the postgraduate and fellowship level which were research based on different cohorts of cancer patients. After her training, she worked at the Aga Khan Hospital Mombasa as a consultant physician and medical oncologist for two years before joining Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi in January 2023.
Dr Amina is dedicated in delivering patient care that is evidenced-based and compassionate whilst working together with all team members for excellent patient outcomes. Her interests include breast and upper gastrointestinal system malignancies, research in cancer and teaching.
