Gastroenterology​

The gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition at the Aga Khan University Medical College, East Africa is a sub-specialty that offers diagnostic and therapeutic services for all disorders related to the digestive system, liver and biliary system as well as nutritional disorders. This is done through outpatient clinics, inpatient management, endoscopic services and radiology for ultrasound-guided biopsies.  

The service is currently run by three paediatric gastroenterologists. We liase with doctors abroad on cases that cannot be managed locally for example liver transplants so that we prepare the patients prior to surgery as well as manage them once they are back. This provides seamless transition of care to the patients. 

In addition, we instruct the residents in Paediatrics and Family Medicine on conditions in this sub-speciality. ​
