The Department of Community Health Sciences (CHS) is a leader in community-oriented education, research and service delivery models in Pakistan and has substantially contributed to the population and public health agenda since the inception of AKU. It has also led the primary health care (PHC) approach, demonstrated public health practice and carried out health systems development initiatives. In this regard, it has developed successful models of urban and rural care by empowering vulnerable populations for improving their health by building on the strengths of communities and strengthening health systems.
