The course focuses on the issues in Health Professions Education (HPE) at national, regional and global level and reasons with the most effective, feasible and sustainable solutions to address these.

Course Description
Students get opportunities to interact with experienced faculty, delineate and explore current issues in HPE and identify factors that have an impact on health professions education. They will also identify the changes required in medical, nursing and allied health education and propose solutions to align education to health services in order to overcome these issues.
This course will bring awareness of current issues in health professions education (HPE) and equip our students as educational leaders with well-considered approaches after critically weighing the evidences; so that they may take meaningful steps towards aligning education for health services and vice versa.
Eligibility
ARC-Issues is a core course for students enrolled in the Master of HPE Programme. It is also open as a standalone course to all health care professionals in Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry and Allied Health with a proven interest/responsibility and at least two years teaching experience in HPE.
There are a limited number of seats, applicants will be shortlisted according to the specified criteria

Learning Objectives
By the end of the course the students should be able to:
identify the specific issues in undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing health professionals education around the world, in the region and in Pakistan
prioritize issue/s on the basis of impact on health and health services
relate the causes of the major issues in HPE around the world with the respective geopolitical, socioeconomic and other reasons; especially problems in governance
relate the balance of service, education and research to work ethics of faculty members and propose best possible ways to do it
develop a personal vision, mission and methodology for the issues identified
propose solution/s with justification, keeping in focus the responsibilities of accreditation bodies, medical colleges and universities; and ventures for Inter-professional Education
Assessment
The assessment in this course is divided into the following two components, which have to be passed separately.
In the distance learning component assessment will be based on completion and grading of an application based independent study and written assignment using best evidence medical education (BEME). The assignment will be evaluated on the basis of application of knowledge and synthesis to justify best solution/s of issues in HPE which are likely to be effective, feasible and sustainable in their own settings.
For satisfactory completion of the course requirements, students need to attain at least 55% scores in continuous assessment and the written assignments independently, with an overall aggregate of 60%.
Educational Strategies
The course is highly participatory and is offered through guided discovery, interactive sessions, facilitator led discussion (FLD) and faculty presentation (FP) individual and small group work, individual and small group work, presentations and individual written assignment.
Mid-course feedback will be provided.
