​Palliative Medicine 

The Palliative Medicine Fellowship is a two-year, AKU PGME accredited training program through the department of oncology, section of Palliative Medicine. It offers comprehensive multidisciplinary training in the management of life limiting and terminal conditions, including experience in aggressive symptom evaluation, symptom management and end of life care. The fellowship trains physicians to reduce the burdens of life limiting conditions by supporting the best quality of life. The palliative medicine fellowship program is designed to further training in the management of factors that contribute to the suffering of the patient and the patient's family through the course of the illness. The fellowship experience includes acquiring the central skills of helping with medical decision-making, assessment and management of physical, psychosocial and spiritual distress faced by individuals and their families. Over the years, palliative medicine has developed into an excellent and robust service providing state-of-the-art care to patients and their families dealing with serious and life-limiting conditions. The growing need for more and well-trained palliative medicine specialists has enabled us to begin a comprehensive training programme for sub-specialisation in this field. The programme’s primary goal is to provide fellows the opportunity to develop the clinical and research skills and experience necessary to become successful independent specialist ready to serve our community.​​
