Department of Psychiatry

The Department of Psychiatry within Aga Khan University Medical College, Pakistan, is a national leader in research, education and service provision​ in areas of mental health and wellbeing. 

The department comprises expert faculty members (Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Speech, and Language Therapists) who teach and train AKU's medical students, residents and fellows. These trainees promote evidence-based practices to provide the highest quality of psychiatry services to children, adolescents, adults and geriatric members of the Pakistani population. The department's main aim is to provide thorough assessment, identification, and management for the issues faced by our patients.

​Our Mission:

To provide high-quality healthcare that is sensitive and responsive to the Pakistani population's mental health needs, including their socio-cultural and religious norms. The department strives to be a leader in mental health research (nationally and internationally), and one that works closely with other departments within AKU as well as national and international institutions. We aim to be at the forefront of training the future psychiatrists and mental health professionals of low-and-middle income countries (including Pakistan) while employing a holistic, bio-psychosocial, and ethical approach to patient care.
