Primary objective:

  • To describe the prevalence and distribution of pneumococcal serotypes in the nasopharynx of children in rural Matiari, Sindh after a switch from PCV10 to PCV13 in Pakistan’s Federal Directorate of Immunization (FDI).

Secondary objectives:

  • To compare current prevalence and distribution of PCV13 serotype pneumococcus with the serotype distribution prior to the introduction of PCV13 in the same geographical location.

  • To describe the predictors of PCV13 serotype pneumococcal carriage in the nasopharynx of children in rural Matiari, Sindh.

  • To determine factors influencing parental perceptions regarding vaccination in children.

  • To describe serotype specific antimicrobial resistance patterns of pneumococcus isolated from nasopharynx of children, after introduction of PCV13 in a rural population in Pakistan.
