Dr Adil Haider, a graduate of the class of 1998, is set to return to the University as the new Dean of the Medical College in Pakistan.
After qualifying as a doctor at AKU over two decades ago, Dr Haider has had a distinguished career in public health research and surgery in the United States.
He has held key positions at eminent institutions such as Johns Hopkins University and the Boston-based Center for Surgery and Public Health, a joint initiative between Harvard University and the Brigham

and Women’s Hospital, during which he has overseen the research of over 150 faculty members and supervised grants worth over US $12 million.
An accomplished trauma and acute care surgeon, Dr Haider has also been recognised for his work in the area of disparities in access to life-saving surgery.
He is regarded as one of the foremost experts on healthcare inequities in the United States with projects focused on describing and mitigating unequal outcomes based on gender, race, sexual orientation, ethnicity, age and socioeconomic status.
“Being chosen to lead the medical college where I became a doctor is truly a sacred trust and really a dream come true,” said Dr Haider while speaking about his plans to use the power of a research-led University to enhance the prospects and wellbeing of disadvantaged people around the world.
Dr Haider believes that equality is the cornerstone of medicine and is keen to further the Medical College’s mission of promoting the highest standards of medical education and research, while expanding access to safe, optimal and equitable healthcare.
A frequent visitor to the campus, Dr Haider has acted as a mentor to many current and past students from AKU and has been a prominent part of the North America chapter of our global alumni network.
He is set to join the Medical College as Dean in January 2019.
