CIME Nairobi in partnership with PGME Nairobi conducted a scoop training and assessed residents' communication skills in complex situations with the help of the newly installed innovative B-line system. This system consists of 25 high resolution cameras and computing to allow detailed facial expression to be captured from different angles as a simulated patient interaction unfolds, opening up the whole range of communication skills to assessment.
This cutting-edge technologies also allows live recordings, real-time annotation and online scoring, meaning that examiners can develop and evaluate 60 medical residents' communication skills in complex situations such as end of life discussions, dealing with angry patients and discussing medical error with patients. Feedback from examiners and residents was overwhelmingly positive. The system is efficient, requiring much less manpower than traditional OSCEs, while allowing analysis of videos for detailed feedback, and for quality control in the event of a grade appeal, or on request by an external examiner.
