The transition from nursing school to the hospital working environment can be daunting for nursing graduates as they realize there is a gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application.
To bridge this gap, the AKUH's Nursing Education Services (NES), in collaboration with the Centre for Innovation in Medical Education – Nairobi, conducted the first-ever simulation based Nursing Orientation Programme on February 2-3, 2023. This mandatory two-day training programme welcomed 45 newly recruited nurses.
This initiative provided an opportunity for new nurses to gain a deeper understanding of patient handling protocols at our hospital and to refresh their skills through real-life clinical simulation scenarios in a hospital setting. The programme facilitated a seamless transition of the newly recruited nurses into the hospital's clinical areas, thereby ensuring quality care for patients.
We will conduct this programme quarterly to provide opportunities for new nurses to train on essential skills in care and learn about our hospital's nursing standards. We are confident that this initiative will ensure our new nurses are well-equipped to deliver quality care and uphold our commitment to excellence in healthcare.
