The Aga Khan University (AKU) has been selected as one of eight nominees, amongst 700 applications for the prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) Asia Awards 2023 in the category of Teaching and Learning Strategy of the Year. This recognition comes as the University celebrates its 40th anniversary, marking four decades of service to the community with its rich history of excellence in education and healthcare.
Widely known as the ‘Oscars of Higher Education', the THE Awards were a fixture in the UK higher education calendar for 14 years, before the prestigious event was moved overseas for the first time in 2019. These awards offer a major international platform to recognize outstanding leadership and institutional performance as well as celebrate the continent's excellence in higher education.
The University’s selection speaks to its s commitment to promoting the highest standards of education through its Network of Quality, Teaching and Learning (QTL_net). QTL_net was established in 2013 to support the university's efforts to enhance the quality of teaching and learning and provides a platform for faculty members and educational experts to collaborate, share best practices, and develop innovative teaching methods. Over the past decade, QTL_net has played a pivotal role in promoting excellence in education at AKU and beyond. Some notable achievements of the Network include establishing the Haile T Debas Teachers’ Academy, the first interdisciplinary Academy in the developing world and gaining successful accreditation by Advance HE (UK) making AKU the first University in South Asia and East Africa to be awarded this seal of quality. QTL_net’s work also won the UNESCO sponsored International Zairi Award for Excellence in Disruptive Education in 2022.
The winners of the awards will be announced at a ceremony in Hong Kong on June 21, 2023.
