The Centre of Excellence in Women and Child Health (CoEWCH) was established in 2012 as a research unit within the obstetrics and gynaecology department of the Aga Khan University (AKU) with Prof Zulfiqar A Bhutta as the Founding Director. In 2015, Prof Marleen Temmerman was welcomed as the East Africa (EA) Director of the Centre to build capacity across East Africa. CoEWCH EA conducts research, knowledge translation, capacity building, and evidence-based advocacy in reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health and rights to improve the health and wellbeing of women, children, and adolescents. With a focus on establishing high quality education, multidisciplinary research, and trainings in women, child, and adolescent health, the Centre contributes to health systems strengthening and quality of care, particularly in remote groups and vulnerable populations.

Job Summary

The Senior Statistician will provide statistical support to project staff within the PRECISE-DYAD, and other related studies. The consultant will be responsible for preparing analysis reports, conducting quantitative data analysis, and contributing to manuscript writing.


Responsibilities

  • Conduct quantitative statistical analysis of already collected data from PRECISE, DYAD, and related sub-studies.
  • Write comprehensive statistical analysis reports detailing methods, findings, and interpretations.
  • Build capacity by training project staff in statistical methods, data management, and quantitative research approaches.
  • Support manuscript development by providing statistical input, ensuring the accuracy of analysis and interpretation.
  • Provide statistical quality control and ensure adherence to best practices in data analysis.
  • Participate in project meetings locally to provide expert statistical insights.
  • Mentor junior researchers and analysts, fostering the development of in-house statistical expertise.
  • Ensure the highest level of ethical and professional integrity in all research activities.

Requirements

  • Minimum PhD with substantial post PhD academic experience.
  • Extensive experience in statistical analysis, preferably in health research.
  • Proven record of published manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Proficiency in statistical software such as R, Stata, or SAS.
  • Experience in training and capacity building in statistical methods.
  • Preference will be given to residents of Kilifi or Mombasa, to enable regular team meetings.
  • Demonstrated experience in scientific contributions and leadership in health research, including conducting research in both rural and urban settings in Kenya.
  • Proven expertise in quantitative research methods, including the design and implementation of statistical models and data analysis approaches tailored to large health datasets.

  • You will be expected to maintain strict confidentiality of the study material/ documents provided for the purposes of this task.
  • You will, at all times, during the period of your contract safeguard the reputation of Aga Khan University
  • Your payment will be subject to Withholding Tax deduction as per Kenyan Law.
  • You will be expected to provide AKU-EA finance office with your PIN and bank details to facilitate your payment.
  • Your payment will be subject to the provision of signed schedule /invoice to the AKU-EA finance office confirming work done in line with the project goals.
